Pearson Syndrome

Pearson syndrome is a rare, multisystem mitochondrial disorder affecting bone marrow and pancreas function. It presents in infancy with anaemia, neutropenia, and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. Pearson syndrome arises from deletions in mitochondrial DNA, leading to impaired cellular energy production. Prognosis is poor with many patients succumbing within early childhood.
