Smith-Magenis syndrome (SMS) is a developmental disorder caused by a deletion or mutation on chromosome 17. Individuals with Smith-Magenis syndrome typically exhibit intellectual disabilities, sleep disturbances, and distinctive facial features. SMS is also associated with behavioural problems such as self-harm and aggression. Diagnosis involves genetic testing, and management focuses on supportive therapies.
