Stool Elastase
Stool elastase is an enzyme measured to assess pancreatic function. Low stool elastase levels indicate pancreatic insufficiency, which can be linked to conditions like chronic pancreatitis or cystic fibrosis. Testing stool elastase helps diagnose exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) and monitor treatment effectiveness. Normal stool elastase ranges from 200 to 500 µg/g.
