What Is Shingles
Shingles, medically known as herpes zoster, is a viral infection caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. It results in a painful rash and blisters, typically on one side of the body. Shingles mainly affects older adults and those with weakened immune systems.
