Dr Richard E Ashton
MA, MB, BChir, MD, FRCP(UK) Dr Ashton has been a Consultant for 30 years in General Dermatology, with a special interest in Skin Cancer, Mohs and Dermatological Surgery. He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge, and then studied medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, qualifying in 1974 (No 1731547). He was Consultant Dermatologist to the Royal Navy, retiring as a Surgeon Captain. Dr Ashton is also co-author of Differential Diagnosis in Dermatology.

Dr Amy Poyner
MBBS, MRCS, MRCGP, DRCOG Amy Poyner qualified as a doctor in 1998 from the University of London, obtained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2003 and qualified as a General Practitioner in 2008 (GMC No 4523594). She has a specialist interest in Surgical Dermatology. Amy has worked within the local community as a GP and at the Beacon Centre, St Mary’s Hospital. Her senior roles include being the Clinical Commissioning Group’s Clinical Lead for Unscheduled Care and the Chair of the IOW NHS 111’s Clinical Governance Committee.

Dr Louay Al-Mukhtar
MBchB ,DRCOG, MRCP(Ireland), MRCGP Dr Louay Qualified in Medicine in 1990 from Basrah University, Iraq. He is an experienced GP with a special interest in dermatology and the relationship between skin and systemic disease; he holds the Diploma of Practical Dermatology from Cardiff University and is a member of the Primary Care Dermatology Society. Louay is passionate about providing excellent clinical care to all of his patients.

Dr Patrick Wills
MBBS, MSc, MRCP, MRCGP, MBPsS, DipGUMed Patrick qualified in medicine in 1989 at Kings College, London. He is a GP partner and trainer, and also an associate specialist in genito-urunary medicine and sexual health. He has a long standing interest in dermatology and holds the diploma of practical dermatology of Cardiff University.

Rebecca Gautier
Rebecca is a Registered Nurse who has been working with the Isle of Wight NHS since 1983 and has been working in and around the field of dermatology since 2003 when she joined the outpatient service. She gained her experience whilst working closely with Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons and this triggered her interest in skin disorders and aesthetics. She began her personal dermatological journey when she qualified as a photo-therapist in 2005 and since then she has gained qualifications in skin surgery and become an independent nurse prescriber. She is a highly experienced Dermatology Advanced Nurse Practitioner, skilled in helping clients with a range of skin conditions including melanoma, acne, rosacea and psoriasis. Alongside her NHS work she has been working with injectables for over a decade and updated her skills in 2016 when she attended the Harley Academy and became an Accredited Aesthetic Practitioner. Rebecca provides private consultations for aesthetics and also cosmetic dermatology surgery. Rebecca was born in Bembridge and enjoys working within the local community.

Helen Pole
Helen is an experienced nurse who is skilled in caring for patients undergoing assessments and treatment for skin cancer. She ensures that they have access to the best medical care and follow-up support available. Before joining the Dermatology team as the Skin Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist, Helen worked for 15 years in the community as a District Nurse, and eventually became a Community Matron on the Island. She continued with this role over the water in Southampton and Portsmouth. Helen’s qualifications include RGN BSc (Hons) in Public Health with a District Nursing Speciality, and Independent Nurse Prescriber with Advance Nurse Practitioner Post Graduate certificate (PGcert).

Amanda Pushparajah
Amanda qualified as a nurse in 1995, graduating from Surrey University with a BSc Honors Degree in Health Sciences. Amanda’s lifelong ambition was to nurse in Africa, so after working in the A&E department at St Thomas’s Hospital in London and gaining a Diploma in Tropical Disease, she joined Médecins San Frontier in Zambia working with people affected by HIV/AIDS. The majority of Amanda’s nursing experience has been in cancer and palliative care at Guy’s Hospital in London. Amanda moved to the IOW in 2006 and joined the Mountbatten hospice where she took leadership, managerial and specialist roles. In August 2020 Amanda joined The Lighthouse team as a Skin Cancer Nurse Specialist – a new and exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team supporting the care of patients with skin cancer on the island.
Research Lead & Clinical Assistant
Louise
Louise is our research lead for a clinical study to monitor the long-term safety of drugs used to treat psoriasis. She is a highly skilled member of the clinical and administration team at 62 Crocker Street. Louise spent many years working in hospitals and nursing homes. She holds qualifications in Health and Social Care, Medication Administration and Control, has a CertHe in Healthcare & Health Science and has studied an Open University Mental Health course. This included the concepts of mental health, addictions, mood, wellbeing and dementia. When working in a practice in Gloucestershire, Louise continued her training, and qualified to administer immunisations and B12 injections and completed Mental Health First Aid Champion training. Louise’s role sees her time split between Dermatology Administration and assisting clinicians.

Samantha Harrison
Samantha has worked on all the wards at St Mary’s Hospital over a period of seven years. This included Accident and Emergency for one year and six years in outpatients which covered many clinics such as Orthopaedics, Fracture, Gastro, Surgical, ENT , Respiratory, Oncology, Vascular, Neuro, Desk, Renal, Plaster Room, Urology and Dermatology. Sam has learned so much over the seven years. She enjoys being a hands on person and continually strives to improve the care she can offer through additional training and experience. Sam qualified in 2018 to be a Phlebotomist and is one of our blood taking team.
Healthcare Assistant and Phlebotomist
Elaine Ashdown
Elaine brings a range of skills and experience to the dermatology team. She has a background in social care as a Senior Carer with qualifications in Health and social care and worked as a teaching assistant with Diploma in Teaching and learning. Before joining our team, Elaine was an Emergency Department Assistant at St Mary’s Hospital, working in the Emergency Department, the Urgent Treatment Centre, and the Covid Emergency ward. She has completed additional training in Immediate Life Support, venepuncture, cannulation, performing ECGs, bladder scanning, blood glucose monitoring and is a welcome addition to the clinical team.

Malcolm is a highly experienced manager who had a senior role at the Beacon Centre, St Mary’s Hospital. He has specialist knowledge of the Dermatology sector and now leads the Dermatology Services team at 62 Crocker Street.
