Hospital Director

Steve Booker

After graduating in 1991 with a BA (Hons) in Economics, Steve joined international accountancy firm Deloitte and went on to qualify with the Chartered Institute of Financial Accounting (CIPFA) in 1995. Steve first joined Practice Plus Group in August 2005 as Commercial Manager at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Barlborough, progressing to Commercial Manager for Barlborough and Eccleshill NHS Treatment Centres in 2010. His time at Practice Plus Group has seen Steve tackle various different roles, including Head of Finance for Secondary Care, and in 2016 Steve took on his latest challenge as he was appointed Hospital Director for Practice Plus Group Hospital, Barlborough. Steve oversees the smooth running of all services at the Chesterfield based hospital, which employs over 200 people and delivers approximately 4,000 procedures per annum.

Medical Director

Marco La Malfa

Dr Marco La Malfa undertook his medical education in Rome before relocating to Antwerp in Belgium where he completed his training in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at the University Hospital of Antwerp. After completing his studies and achieving the status of Consultant Anaesthetist, Dr La Malfa worked at the University Hospital developing his interest in anaesthesia for day surgery and loco-regional anaesthesia. In 2004, Dr La Malfa moved to the UK, working as Consultant Anaesthetist within the Princess Alexandra NHS Trust in Harlow. In October 2004 he joined the Department of Health initiative ‘GSup’ contract providing anaesthetics for NHS patients within the Nuffield hospitals in Birmingham, Wolverhampton and North Staffordshire. At the end of the ‘Gsup’ contract he joined Interhealth Canada as Lead Anaesthetist, providing anaesthetics for five years at the Kidderminster NHS Treatment Centre. During that tenure Dr La Malfa carried out more than 6,000 anaesthetic procedures within orthopaedics, including minor and major procedures. Thereafter he joined UK-SH as Clincal Director of Anaesthetics covering five of the NHS Treatment Centres, focusing on enhanced recovery pathways to reduce hospital stay for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery. In 2015, Dr La Malfa joined Practice Plus Group as Clinical Director of Anaesthetics and in 2016 became the Medical Director at the Practice Plus Group Hospital, Barlborough. Day case total hip, knee and shoulder replacements are now common practice in Barlborough, enhancing patient’s recovery and experience.

Head of Nursing and Clinical Service Manager

Elaine Bodle

Elaine has worked at Practice Plus Group Hospital, Barlborough since 2012. Elaine joined as Ward Manager and was promoted to her new role in August 2015. Elaine has 36 years experience working in a Healthcare setting in both Nursing and Management positions.

Senior Finance Manager

Delano Maycock

After graduating in 2004 with a BA (Hons) in Business and Accounting, Delano completed MBA in 2006 and CIMA qualification. Delano first joined Practice Plus Group in September 2013 as Reporting Accountant in Reading Head Office, progressing to Senior Finance Manager for Practice Plus Group Hospital, Barlborough in 2016. Describing his role he said: “Every day brings a new set of experiences and there is always something to learn and I am really enjoying working with the team at Barlborough.”
