BM MD FRCOPHTH Mr Riaz Asaria qualified from Southampton University in 1989 and began his specialist ophthalmology training in 1992, specialising in Retinal Disease. After qualifying at the University of Milan in 1987 and obtaining a Master of Surgery from the University of Parma in 1992, he moved to the UK in 1995 and in 1996 he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He specialised in HPB surgery and Liver Transplant and since 1999 has worked in several centres of excellence including King’s College Hospital in London and Nagoya University Hospital in Japan. Professor Fusai’s primary clinical and academic interest is in pancreatic cancer, liver metastases and cholangiocarcinoma and in the modalities to treat patients with advanced disease including vascular reconstruction. He is highly trained in Hepato-pancreato-biliary, general and laparoscopic surgery including the treatment of benign conditions such as gallstones and pancreatitis, He has published over 100 peer-reviewed publications and he is a member of various societies and committees, including the European Association of HPB surgery (E-AHPBA), the European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO), the European Surgical Association (ESA) and the International Study Group for Pancreatic Surgery (ISGPS). He is the President of the Italian Medical Society of Great Britain (IMSoGB) and in 2010 he founded Fiorina, a charitable fund for the treatment of pancreatic cancer which supports several clinical and research projects.

Dr Roopinder Gillmore

MA MRCP PHD Dr Roopinder Gillmore received her first degree from the University of Cambridge and subsequently qualified as a doctor from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Medical School. She carried out her oncology training and has worked in various cancer hospitals including the Royal Marsden Hospital, the Hammersmith and Charing Cross hospitals, UCLH and the Royal Free Hospital. She completed her PhD at Imperial College London under the supervision of Prof Hans Stauss. Her research focused on analysing immune responses in patients with solid cancers to determine processes by which patients’ immune responses develop an inability to recognise and kill cancer cells – with a view to developing immune-based treatments for cancer patients. She joined the Royal Free hospital as a consultant in 2009 and established the cancer of unknown primary Service (CUP) which received excellent feedback following national peer review. The CUP service reviews all patients who have scans demonstrating evidence of metastatic cancer in the absence of a definite primary, the aim of the service is to help investigate patients appropriately ensuring this is carried out in a timely manner. She continues to be the trust lead for the cancer of unknown primary service and chairs the weekly cancer of unknown primary multi-disciplinary meeting. The Royal Free Hospital is the tertiary referral centre for pancreato-biliary cancers for North Central London and hosts the weekly specialist MDT. As well as the CUP service, Dr Gillmore is the trust medical oncology lead for pancreas and biliary tract cancers and as such, attends the weekly pancreato-biliary multidisciplinary meeting. She specialises in providing systemic anti-cancer treatments for these cancers. Dr Gillmore is a member of the North Central London expert reference groups for acute oncology and cancer of unknown primary, pancreato-biliary cancer as well the chemotherapy group

Dr Anthony Gubbay

MBCHB, BSC, FRCA Dr Gubbay is a Consultant in Pain Management and Anaesthesia at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust Hospitals, working across site at Royal Free, Barnet, Chase Farm and Edgware Hospitals. He graduated from Leeds University Medical School in 2001 with degrees in medicine and psychology in relation to medicine. He completed his postgraduate training in Anaesthesia and Critical Care through the Central London School of Anaesthesia, followed by his postgraduate training in pain medicine at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square. During his training, Dr Gubbay also undertook two years of research at the Royal Marsden where he developed an interest in cancer pain. Dr Gubbay offers both a scientific and holistic approach to your suffering from pain, whatever the cause. From reviewing your pain medication and giving advice on how to minimize side effects, to his comprehensive rehabilitation skills and interventional procedures to facilitate reintegration, he delivers a high standard of care that is both individualised and patient-centred, essential for effective pain management. His ultimate goal is to improve your quality and enjoyment of life whilst supporting the management of your pain. He has had over 15 years of Anaesthetic experience. His interests include Difficult Airway Anaesthesia, Regional Anaesthesia and Day Case surgery. He regards patient safety as paramount. Dr Gubbay is proficient in several interventional pain procedures including epidurals, nerve root blocks, medial branch blocks, and trigger point injections. He has exceptional skills in the use of ultrasound for procedures ensuring a wide range of techniques. He is also a keen acupuncturist. Dr Gubbay is a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists UK, a member of British Pain Society, and a member of the British Medical Acupuncture Society. Dr Gubbay specialises in managing a wide range of acute and chronic pain conditions. These incorporate chronic head and neck pains including whiplash injuries, spine and musculoskeletal pain including rotator cuff injuries and leg pain from sciatica, abdominal pain, and pelvic and abdominal visceral pain. He also has an interest in nerve pain, phantom pain, trigeminal neuralgia, pain after shingles and CRPS. From his research experience, Dr Gubbay has interest in cancer pain and opioids rationalisation for non-malignant pain. Through his passion for education, Dr Gubbay is the clinical supervisor for anaesthetic trainees undertaking their pain modules, whilst being actively involved in undergraduate and post graduate teaching. He also lectures locally, nationally and internationally and has been published widely in anaesthesia and pain journals. Dr Gubbay enjoys spending his leisure time with his large family. Mr Satheesh Iype

MBBS, MS, DNB, MRCS, MCh, MPhil (Cantab), FEBS (transplant surgery), FRCS Mr Satheesh Iype is an experienced consultant surgeon in HPB surgery (surgery of the liver and the pancreas) and liver transplantation based at the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead, London. Mr Iype has over 15 years’ experience in this speciality, dealing with both cancer and non-cancerous conditions affecting the gallbladder, liver, bile duct and pancreas. He routinely performs complex surgical procedures for liver and pancreatic cancer. General surgical procedures for groin hernia, incisional hernia and abdominal wall swellings are also part of his routine practice. Mr Iype qualified in 1997 at Mahatma Gandhi University, India. After obtaining his postgraduate training in surgery in India, he did specialist surgical training in the East of England region, mainly based at Cambridge. He was awarded M Phil from University of Cambridge in transplant surgery and has also been awarded the European fellowship in transplant surgery. He pursued further training by completing fellowships in HPB and liver transplant surgery in various prestigious units such as Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge; Heidelberg, Germany and Asan Medical Centre, Seoul. He also underwent training and practised live donor liver transplant in India. Mr Iype’s expertise includes laparoscopic surgery of the gall bladder, liver and pancreas. He regularly treats patients with benign conditions affecting the pancreas such as acute pancreatitis, chronic calcific pancreatitis and pancreatic cysts. An active researcher in the liver transplantation field, he has published extensively in peer reviewed journals and contributed to book chapters. His area of special interest in research and development is live donor transplantation and machine perfusion to improve the quality of liver transplantation. He is currently involved in several research projects involving machine perfusion in liver transplantation. He is on the faculty of the University College of London for undergraduate medical education.

Mr Norbert Kang

His research interests include urinary incontinence and infections, not only because these comprise a significant part of his practice, but also, because he believes that the evidence base in these areas is poor and while cancer is an emotive topic, the suffering of these patients is no less and clinicians have a duty of care to them too. He believes medicine is as much an art as science and must be practised with compassion, sensitivity and respect. He considers his listening ability and easy approachability as his strengths and strikes an immediate personal rapport with his patients. He lives in Watford with his gynaecologist wife and two daughters and enjoys music, cinema and sports. He is a keen follower of cricket and tennis

Ms Henna Mohiudin

MBBS, MRCOG, DFFP, DIPLOMA OF OPERATIVE ENDOSCOPY IN Consultant Obstetrician And Gynaecologist Ms Mohiudin has trained in high-risk obstetrics and Gynaecology in the largest tertiary hospitals in London. She has worked as a clinical research fellow in the IVF unit in King’s College Hospital and is trained to treat complex cases of sub-fertility. Besides holding a diploma in operative endoscopy from the Université d’Auvergne (France), she has a certificate of competence in gynaecological ultrasonography from King’s College Hospital. Currently, she is Labour Ward Lead at the Royal Free Hospital and runs a specialist clinic for pre-term birth screening. She has a special interest in gynaecological hysteroscopic procedures and subfertility

Consultant Nephrologist

Dr Shabbir Moochhala

BSC (HONS) MBCHB PHD FRCP (EDIN) Dr Shabbir Moochhala is a consultant Nephrologist and Physician at the Royal Free Hospital. He has twelve years experience of consultant practice at the Royal Free covering all aspects of kidney disease, including acute kidney injury, glomerulonephritis, hypertension, transplantation and all forms of dialysis. Dr Moochhala is one of very few nephrologists in specialist centres who also maintains a general medical practice. This means that he is consulted by patients with a wide variety of medical and kidney problems. Dr Moochhala also sees patients with multi-system problems or where the specialty is unclear. He always tries to address all of his patients’ medical issues and not just the kidney ones. He has specialist expertise in rare diseases, and is Principal Investigator at the Royal Free for a number of international medical trials on rare kidney stone disease. He specialises in the diagnosis and management of rare kidney conditions, renal tubular and electrolyte disorders, hypertensive disorders and Fabry disease. Of course, to be able to detect and treat rare diseases, an excellent knowledge of common diseases is also required, and Dr Moochhala has wide experience of general medicine and renal medicine over his consultant practice at multiple locations in north London.

Professor Of Hepatology

Professor Kevin Moore

MB BS FRCP BSC PH.D As a hepatolologist, Professor Moore sees patients with a wide range of liver diseases. He has a strong background in all aspects of general hepatology including alcohol misuse disorders, fatty liver disease as well as experience of looking after liver transplant patients. Professor Moore trained at King’s College London. He has a BSc and PhD in biochemistry. He is in on the Specialist register for gastroenterology but only sees patients with Liver Disorders. He was initially appointed as an MRC Senior Clinical Fellow, before becoming Professor of Hepatology. He worked on the liver transplant rota for 20 years, caring for patients before and after liver transplantation. He now leads the Alcohol Care Team at the Royal Free Foundation NHS Trust, as well as seeing patients with undiagnosed liver disease. He is also on the specialist register for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, as well as General Internal Medicine. As a general physician he is happy to see patients from any speciality to review or discuss their medication, or to see patients with unusual drug metabolism or side effects

Professor Afshin Mosahebi

MBBS FRCS FRCS(PLAST) PHD MBA Professor Mosahebi is a Consultant Plastic surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital. He graduated from Guy’s & St Thomas medical school, University of London. His plastic surgery training was undertaken in some of the most esteemed hospitals in both London and New York City. Professor Mosahebi is the Head of the one the largest plastic surgery teaching units at Royal Free Hospital. He is also the Deputy Editor of the prestigious Plastic Surgery Journal (JPRAS). He is a Council member for the Royal Society of Medicine and British Association of Aesthetic Plastic surgeons, as well as being a member of the research committee for the British association of Plastic surgeons. Furthermore, he is the member of Specialist Advisory Committee on Plastic surgery of the united Kingdom and is involved in teaching & training of Plastic surgeons. “I believe each patient is unique, there isn’t such thing as a standard operation in plastic surgery & each time needs to be bespoke to patients needs & requirements”.
